Privacy Policy is Section 6 of our complete Terms of Service
About This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Tango Dating Company collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the Tango mobile application and related services.
By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. This Privacy Policy is part of our Terms of Service (Section 6).
Please read this policy carefully to understand how we handle your personal information.
We collect information that you provide when you create an account and use the Service:
Account Information: Name, phone number, student email address (currently an @tamu.edu address), date of birth, password
Profile Information: Photos, an optional recorded voice introduction, biography, university affiliation, major, year in school, gender, sexual orientation, height, ethnicity/race, religion, political views, alcohol and smoking habits, education level
Preferences: Dating preferences, interests, hobbies, favorite venues, availability schedule
Communications: Messages, photos, and other content you send to other users, communications with our support team, feedback and survey responses
Connected Services: If you connect Spotify, Apple Music, or Instagram, we collect the information needed to display your music taste or social handle on your profile (such as your top artists and tracks, or your Instagram handle)
Contacts (Friend Finder): If you choose to find friends already on Tango, we process the phone numbers in your device's address book by converting them into irreversible cryptographic hashes on your device. We upload only these hashes to match you with friends; we do not upload or store your raw contacts
Couples Mode: If you use Couples mode, we collect your couple profile, shared date preferences, couple memories and journal entries (including photos), and date-night game responses
Some of this information—such as your race or ethnicity, religion, political views, sexual orientation, and precise location—may be considered "sensitive" personal information under applicable laws. Providing these details is optional, and by choosing to provide them you consent to our use of them as described in this policy.
6.1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain information:
Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, advertising identifier (such as Apple's IDFA), mobile network information, IP address, and push notification tokens
Usage Information: Features you use, profiles you view, your selections in batch matching, screens viewed, actions taken, time spent on the App, and interactions with other users
Location Information: With your permission, we collect precise location data to verify your arrival at a date venue and enable check-in, to power the optional Safety Share feature (sharing your live location with a friend group you choose during a date) and SOS alerts, and to recommend nearby venues. You can control location permissions through your device settings
6.1.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third parties:
Educational Institutions: Confirmation of your student email domain (currently @tamu.edu) to verify student status
Partner Venues: Confirmation of date attendance and check-ins
Analytics and Attribution Providers: Aggregated usage statistics, performance metrics, and information about how you found or installed Tango (for example, from advertising campaigns)
6.1.4 Businesses and Event Listings
Tango shows events happening near you, such as bar specials, live music, campus events, and game days. To do this we collect information about businesses and their public events, not about you:
Business Portal Accounts: When a business uses Tango for Business (business.tangodating.app), we collect the name and work email of each team member, the company's contact email and phone number, its venue listings, the events and specials it posts, the photos and posters it uploads, and its billing records
Public Event Information: We collect publicly available event details, and the event posters published with them, from venue and organization websites and public calendars (for example, the Texas A&M University calendar). We show each poster with its event listing, credited to its source
Instagram: For local businesses and student organizations that announce events on Instagram, we use Meta's official Instagram API to read the recent public posts of their professional (business or creator) Instagram accounts. We read each post's caption and images, such as an event flyer, to identify the event's name, date, time, place, price, and details. For each event we list, we store those details, a link to the original post, and a copy of the post's image, which we show with the listing in the App and on our website, credited to the account and linked back to the original post. For student organizations, we keep only event flyers, never photos of their members, and we skip events that only members can attend. We do not store the captions, and we do not collect information about the people who follow, like, or comment on those posts
AI Processing: Event pages, captions, and flyers are processed by Google's Gemini models to extract event details and to write a short summary of each event. We send only the event content, never information about Tango users
6.2 How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
6.2.1 To Provide and Improve the Service
Create and manage your account
Show you events and specials happening nearby, and rank them using your interests, favorite venues, and availability

Schedule dates and create itineraries
Direct you to partner venues for your dates
Send in-app date reminders and notifications
Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries
Provide safety features, including pre-date and post-date check-ins, arrival verification, Safety Share, and SOS alerts

Respond to your questions and provide customer support
Send administrative messages about your account or changes to our Terms
Request feedback about your experience (with your consent for marketing communications)
6.2.4 To Ensure Safety and Security
Verify your identity and student status
Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms
Protect the safety and security of our users
Enforce our Terms of Service and policies
Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities
6.3 How We Share Your Information
6.3.1 With Other Users
Your profile information (photos, biography, interests, preferences) is visible to other users as part of the matching process. Your name and basic profile information are shared with matched users to facilitate dates. If you mark an event as "Interested," other users and visitors to our website may see how many people are interested in that event, but not who.
6.3.2 With Partner Venues
When your date is scheduled at a partner venue, we may share the following information so the venue can prepare for your visit:
Your name
Party size (typically two people)
Date and time of your planned visit
Special requests or dietary restrictions if provided
Additionally, we provide partner venues with aggregated, anonymized demographic information about users we direct to their establishments, which may include:
Age ranges
Gender distribution
General interests and preferences
Education level
Other demographic categories that help venues understand their customer base
We do NOT share your private messages or conversations with partner venues or any third parties.
6.3.3 With Service Providers
We work with third-party service providers who process information on our behalf. These currently include:
Supabase — cloud hosting, database, storage, and authentication
Apple (APNs) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notification delivery
Google — AI processing (Gemini) for profile suggestions and for reading event pages and flyers to extract event details, and Google Sign-In
Meta (Facebook) — measurement and attribution of how people find and install Tango. On iOS, the App uses Meta's software development kit to send Meta install and app-open events along with basic device information such as device model, operating system version, and IP address; your device's advertising identifier is included only if you allow tracking. On Android, the App sends Meta app events and your advertising identifier only if you opt in during onboarding. We never send Meta your profile, photos, messages, or matches
Spotify, Apple Music, and Instagram — only if you choose to connect them, to display your music taste or handle
Resend — transactional and notification emails
These service providers are permitted to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us.
6.3.4 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to:
Subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes
Requests from law enforcement or government authorities
Legal claims or disputes
Situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person
Protection of our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or the public
If we receive a subpoena or legal demand for information about a user involved in malicious or illegal activity, we will provide only the information specifically requested and relevant to the legal matter.
6.3.5 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you via email and/or prominent notice on the Service of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.
6.3.6 With Your Consent
We may share your information for other purposes with your explicit consent, such as:
Using your photos or testimonials for marketing purposes (only with separate written consent)
Sharing information with third parties you specifically authorize
6.3.7 What We Do NOT Share
We do NOT:
Sell your personal information for money
Display third-party advertising inside the App
Share your private messages or conversations with partner venues or other third parties, except as required by law
Use or share your information for purposes incompatible with those described in this Privacy section
We do use limited analytics and attribution partners (such as Meta) to measure how people find and install Tango. On iOS, the App sends Meta install and app-open events for this purpose, and we request your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before including your device's advertising identifier; you can decline or change this choice at any time in your device settings. On Android, the App shares this information with Meta only if you opt in during onboarding.
On our website, we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to understand how visitors find and use the site and whether our advertising works. When you sign up for our events email, we record the address you give us along with how you reached the page (for example, the ad or link you came from) so we can tell which campaigns bring in confirmed subscribers. You can block analytics cookies in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
6.4 Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. These measures include:
Encryption of data in transit using secure socket layer technology (SSL)
Secure storage of data on protected servers
Access controls limiting employee access to personal information
Regular security audits and updates
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.
6.5 Data Retention
We keep your information only as long as needed to provide the Service, and then delete or de-identify it, except for a limited set of records we are required or permitted to keep. Specifically:
Account and Profile Information: When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your profile, photos, voice note, bio, matches, and messages within 14 business days
Limited Retained Records: We keep a limited set of records after deletion only where necessary—for example, records of safety or abuse violations, information subject to a legal hold or lawful request, and minimal transaction or audit logs—for as long as required for those specific purposes
Usage and Analytics Data: Retained in aggregated or de-identified form that does not identify you
Group Planner Sessions: Plans created with our free web planner stop working 7 days after they are created, and nobody can rejoin or reopen one after that. The underlying session record, including any email address a host gave us to receive their results, is deleted within 180 days of creation
Event Listings and Interest: Event details, and the images shown with them, are kept as public event listings on the Service and our website. A business or student organization can ask us to remove its listings or images, or to stop reading its Instagram account, at any time by emailing support@tangodating.app, and we will do so within 14 business days. Events you mark as "Interested" are deleted when you delete your account
Legal Compliance: Information required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements is retained only as long as necessary for those purposes
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information as described above. We keep a limited set of records only where we have a specific need, such as:
Responding to legal subpoenas or court orders
Maintaining records of prohibited or unsafe behavior to protect other users
Fraud prevention and security investigations
Aggregated, de-identified statistics that do not identify you
If we receive a lawful subpoena regarding a user who engaged in malicious activity, we will provide only the specific information relevant to the legal matter.
6.6 Your Privacy Rights
6.6.1 Access and Correction
You may access, review, and update your profile information at any time through the App settings. If you need assistance accessing or correcting your information, contact us at support@tangodating.app.
6.6.2 Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account at any time through our Account Deletion Request page, through the App settings, or by contacting support. As described in Section 6.5, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within 14 business days, keeping only a limited set of records where required.
6.6.3 Location Data
You can control whether we collect precise location data through your device settings. Disabling location services may limit certain features of the Service, such as venue recommendations and local matching.
6.6.4 Marketing Communications
You may opt out of receiving promotional emails by following the unsubscribe instructions in those emails or by adjusting your notification preferences in the App. You cannot opt out of receiving administrative or transactional messages related to your account or the Service.
Where Tango lists local events, we send a weekly events email with picks based on your account type, interests, saved places and availability. Every one of these emails has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also turn it off in the App's notification settings. To improve those picks and measure whether the email is useful, we record which links in it you click, and whether it was delivered, bounced or marked as spam.
6.6.5 California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
Right to Know: You may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you
Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (see Section 6.5)
Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell your personal information for money. We use limited analytics and attribution partners (such as Meta) whose receipt of app install and app-open events, and of your advertising identifier where you allow it, may be considered "sharing" under the CPRA. On iOS, declining Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt or disabling the advertising identifier in your device settings stops your advertising identifier from being shared; install and app-open events are still sent without it. On Android, choosing "No Thanks" during onboarding keeps this data collection off. For questions about these practices, contact us at support@tangodating.app
Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@tangodating.app. We will verify your identity before responding to your request.
6.6.6 Texas Privacy Rights
Texas residents have the right to request information about how we share certain categories of personal information with third parties for direct marketing purposes. We do not sell personal identifiable information or share it with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
6.7 Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete that information immediately. If you believe we have collected information from someone under 18, please contact us at support@tangodating.app. For more on how we prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation, see our Child Safety Standards.
6.8 International Users
Tango is currently only available to users located in Texas, USA. If you access the Service from outside Texas, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with local laws. All information collected through the Service is stored and processed in the United States.
6.9 Changes to Privacy Practices
We may update our privacy practices from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Privacy section on the Service and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated privacy practices.
6.10 Contact for Privacy Questions
If you have questions about our privacy practices or this Privacy Policy, please contact us at:
By using Tango, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described herein.
